    FABULOUS EVENT – A SURPRISE BIRTHDAY SOIREE

    People that you love… and {if you’re really lucky} that love you… make everything worthwhile.  I have a tendency to get caught up in all of the beautifully busy moments of life {as I’m sure you do, as well} and, in turn, my birthday came and went without all of the pomp and circumstance to which the people around me have become accustomed {I am known to have a great affinity for throwing a party for any reason at all}.  Don’t get me wrong, my actual birthday was fabulous… it was just a bit understated in comparison to my natural proclivities {I couldn’t find the time… or justify taking the time… to do something to celebrate my own birthday… there were too many other things to be done!}.  Those closest to me {most notably my sister [you can read a “love letter” I wrote to her here] and closest friends} noticed this and, two days after my actual birthday, totally knocked my little socks off with a party at Blush {read about this hotspot here and here} that was full of all of the things I L.O.V.E. {leopard print, cotton candy, martinis, hot pink…}… and, most importantly, it was filled with the people I love.

    FABULOUS EVENT – BIRTHDAY RECAP

    My 26th birthday was a beautiful whirlwind {as was most of the month of July… thank you for putting up with my quasi-sporadic posting, dear readers}… As I was swept about here and there, I didn’t have my wonderful camera with me the whole time… but I did take some photos on my iPhone.  Here is a look at my birthday… bits and pieces of it… via my phone snapshots.

  • Lady in Red

    I know, I know… I said yesterday that I was wearing my 40s vintage dress to the film premiere. I changed my mind exactly 5 minutes before heading out the door. I decided that a red carpet, red lips, and a red hot event… deserved a red dress.  My friends and I had a phenomenal night.  And, clearly, we enjoyed the photo ops available at the gala that followed the film.

    Sidenote: the opening night film, “Sarah’s Key,” was remarkable. If you have the chance to see it, I highly recommend it.

  • Christmas Decor for the Girls

    Who says Christmas has to be all red and green and holly-jolly? Not me!  I threw a little Cupcakes and Champagne party for my best friends before we went out for a night on the town.  I stuck with vintage lace, preppy blue and white striped fabric, hot pink satin ribbon, candles, and lots of glitter and sequins.  Jazzy Christmas music (Eartha Kitt, Ella Fitgerald, Louis Armstrong) played in the background.  The Christmas Tree I had decorated earlier served as a focal point.  The holiday cards and gifts that I had made for them doubled as place cards.  Overall, it was beyond a wonderful night… One of the best nights I’ve had with my best friends.

  • Kristin and Chad… Elysium Designs the Decor for a Gorgeous Wedding

    I was lucky enough to be approached by a young and very talented woman (she is an artist with hair and owns her own salon in Orange County!) to do the decor for her wedding.  She had a vision… In her words, “Shabby chic meets simple elegance.”  The opportunity to expand Elysium all the way to Orange County (the ceremony and reception were hosted in San Juan Capistrano) was one that I could not resist. Before I knew it, the decor preparation (months of painting wooden signs by hand, doing all of the graphic design for the menus, affixing tiny pearls to the place cards, hand constructing the sage voile fabric and lace table runners, and the list goes on) was done and the wedding day was upon us.

    The afternoon sunshine reached its peak in San Juan Capistrano, California as Kristin and Chad said, “I do.”   Their ceremony site was lined with white hydrangeas wrapped in lace.  Ivory and lace rose petals framed the aisle.  The bride and groom had their first kiss as husband and wife under a dramatic oak tree.  At the reception, guests were enveloped by deep pinks, rich greens, and shades of ivory offsetting the grandiose fountain that graced the center of the large open air hacienda courtyard.

    At the end of the day, I awaited Kristin’s reaction to the decor at her ceremony, cocktail, and reception locations.  She ran up to me with a gigantic hug and said that it was the “wedding of her dreams.”  I couldn’t have been happier.
