  • TUXEDO JACKET & PEARLS

    TUXEDO JACKET & PEARLS

Santa Barbara has gotten a bit chilly as of late.  I thought it was a perfect excuse to turn my tuxedo jacket into a daytime look (I have a full blown obsession with layering my clothes).  The playfulness of the oversized pearls, the brown leather accents, and the casual ponytail help balance the drama and formal feel of the jacket.  A smoky eye and lips that pop a bright pink keep the look young.

  • Country Florals, Lace, and Pigtails.

Necklace, F21. Belt, Gossip. Shirt and Sweater, Wet Seal. Jeans, Red Engine.

I was going to meet up with a friend to shop the local Farmer’s Market.  The February chill was in the air and something about the month of love and the thought of fresh local produce put me in a very girly and very…hmm… country mood.  I decided to mix and match the two.  Florals, pastel pinks and yellows, and pigtails demonstrated the requisite amount of girliness.  The distressed denim (obviously my favorite pair of jeans) with a shredded hem framing the edge of my peep toe wedge gave the look some character.  I think I looked as happy as I felt because I couldn’t stop smiling.

  • Bringing Back the Midriff. And Linen Pants.

Blazer and Necklace, Gossip. Blouse, linen pants, and sparkly ring, F21. Gun ring, Wet Seal. Shoes, Predictions.

There is something that I find irresistibly delicious about a pair of pants that gets so rebelliously wrinkled throughout the day.  Sit down… they crease.  Cross your legs… knee wrinkles.  It is the imperfection of linen that I find so intoxicating.  I love the contrast of the crinkled linen with the crisp lines of the preppy tan blazer.  Also, the touch of unexpected skin makes this a perfect date outfit.  Business on the top… party in the middle… and, well, crinkles down the legs.  I know, it doesn’t sound hot, but it is. Do linen.

  • Lady in Red

I know, I know… I said yesterday that I was wearing my 40s vintage dress to the film premiere. I changed my mind exactly 5 minutes before heading out the door. I decided that a red carpet, red lips, and a red hot event… deserved a red dress.  My friends and I had a phenomenal night.  And, clearly, we enjoyed the photo ops available at the gala that followed the film.

Sidenote: the opening night film, “Sarah’s Key,” was remarkable. If you have the chance to see it, I highly recommend it.

  • 1940s Throwback for a Movie Premiere

Dress, Vintage. Mink, gift from Phyllis Diller. White Gloves, Vintage. Diamond necklace, Vintage.

I was getting ready to head out to the opening night of the Santa Barbara International Film Festival. Red carpet entrance? Check. Great seats for the film? Check. VIP tickets to the Premiere After Party? Cheeeeeck. A glamorous night deserves a glamorous outfit.  I threw on a dress from the 1940s, some of my late grandmother’s diamonds, my other late grandmother’s white leather gloves, and a mink stole gifted to me on my birthday by Phyllis Diller (we share the same birthday… just not the same birth year).  I finished it off with a coat of matte red lipstick and some strong perfume.  I felt like Jayne Mansfield. But taller. And not as blonde. And wearing clothes.

  • To Fedora or Not to Fedora?

Fedora, Gossip Boutique in Santa Barbara. Heart Necklace, F21. Timepiece Necklace, Vintage. Sunglasses, Roberto Cavalli. Blouse and camisole, Wet Seal. Shoes, Sketchers. Earrings, Betsey Johnson. Jeans, Red Engine.

I love trends just as much as the next girl… and fedoras were huge last year.  I don’t care one bit if they are slightly out of fashion… I’m obsessed.  Menswear made sexy is one of my favorite statements and I thought it was perfect for a day of work related meetings all over Santa Barbara.
