I love when reader’s write to me with a specific request… One reader asked, “Can you do another post about what to wear to a wedding but this time for fall weddings? I’m going to one in Illinois in Nov. BRRRR! I want to look fashionable and in-season.  Most of my dresses are more California Summer appropriate…” {If you missed my summer wedding post, look at it here}.

The fall wedding look is all about the art of layering {and, of course, if it’s freezing cold… add some cute opaque or patterned tights… very on point}. Trends to incorporate: {faux} fur, the return of the ladylike glove {yay!}, necklaces that look like you must have inherited them from a distant and uber-wealthy relative, clutches that feel like jewelry, and booties with a serious high heel {that keep feet warm, but still look wedding-ready}. You can use all of these tricks with a dress you already own {try to lean toward an autumnal shade and an appropriate length hem}. As for makeup, matte skin with simple black winged liner and a bold lip {red or maroon} are all you need. There’s a serious 1940s revival happening; to keep the look from being costume-y, wear your hair in a sleek pony, stick straight, or in the classic sock bun… It’s an instant way to throw a modern twist on a timeless classic.

I recently had such a lovely picnic with a friend of mine.  We spent an entire afternoon in the park laughing, eating, and enjoying the sunshine.  There’s something frivolous {and a bit decadent} about packing up such fancy foods in a tiny wicker basket. I want to bring back the picnic.  On second thought, I’m not sure that picnicking was ever truly “in”… so, instead of a comeback, let’s start a movement.  Make picnicking an occasion with loads of unexpected color and character {in your quilt, on your plates, and with your glassware}.  Delicious cheeses, the right tools, and a glass {or two} of bubbly… all wrapped up in style… what’s not to like?

I heard about a smart-phone application called Night Out.  I checked out their website and they claimed that they “give you up-to-the-minute information based on location, including deals, happy hours, events & more” and that they “give you an assortment of unique deals from your favorite places right around you.”  I decided to put the application to the test and thought I would use it to plan a girls’ afternoon/night out…

Earlier in the afternoon, I had looked through the Night Out application on my iPhone to find some fun activities {and good deals!} for my girlfriends and me.  All I did was click the Night Out app, selected the “Deals” tab and… bam!… 55% off of two tastings and a free bottle of wine for only $25 {at one of my favorite tasting rooms, Kalyra}.  Purchased! Off to a good start…

We had such an incredible time wine tasting, that we decided to keep the night going.  I used the Night Out Happy Hour tab.  It shows you all of the Happy Hours in your vicinity {I think everyone is aware of my overwhelming love of all Happy Hours}… we picked one within walking distance and definitely made the right choice.  Enterprise Fish Co. has an incredible Happy Hour {and their calamari was to die for}.

After wine, calamari, shrimp quesadillas, and way too much laughter… the girls and I decided to finish off the night with… even more food.  I clicked the “Deals” tab once more and was pleasantly surprised that one of my favorite restaurants, Milk & Honey, was offering a free dessert deal.  Sold.

Final Thoughts: I highly recommend downloading this application.  It’s location specific {they’re adding new cities constantly}, keeps you in the loop as to local deals, happy hours, and events, AND it saves you money {without making it look like you’re trying to save money… you just look tech savvy}.  Download the application asap.  Here’s a link to sign up for free: http://nightout.com/get-started/blonder
