I love Cinco de Mayo. It’s a colorful celebration and I’m thrilled it’s falling on a Monday this year… what a perfect excuse to drink margaritas to kick off the week. Speaking of margaritas, I believe that a Cinco de Mayo fiesta only needs three major things to be a success:
- margaritas
- a tablescape
- guacamole*
*I admit that’s overly simplified… you also need some more substantial food offerings {I’ll leave those up to you} and guests to attend your Cinco Celebration. On with the oversimplification…

You don’t need to stand by the traditional margarita {usually involving a lot of sweet & sour mix and chemicals} on Cinco de Mayo… you can mix it up with a light and refreshing twist on your traditional margarita. The Tequila Lime Spritzer recipe {from The Glitter Guide} is just the right amount of refreshing.
Tequila Lime Spritzer
Ingredients:
– 1.5 ounces Tres Agaves Blanco Tequila
-Lime soda
-Sparkling water
-Cucumber slices and rosemary to garnish
Directions: Use sanding sugar to rim your glass. Pour tequila over ice. Top with lime soda and sparkling water. Garnish with cucumber slices and rosemary sprigs.

Tablescapes, especially for a colorful celebration like Cinco de Mayo, shouldn’t be too thought out. Mix and match different plates, bowls, utensils, linens, and accessories… don’t worry if they don’t all come from the same set. Cinco is all about having fun with color. Swing by your local farmer’s market to pick up some fresh seasonal blooms for your table… the brighter, the better.

I’ve posted it before and I shall post it again… Due to my guacamole obsession {I blame my California roots}, I’ve created what I deem to be The Best Guacamole. It’s simple. Easy to make. And your new go-to dish to bring to any party or potluck.
The Best Guacamole
- 5 ripe Hass avocados
- 3 limes
- 1 red onion
- Bundle of cilantro
- Sea salt
- Freshly ground pepper
- *I like to get all of the ingredients from the local Farmer’s Market
- Halve all of the avocados and remove the pits. Scoop the avocado out and place it in a large mixing bowl.
- Cut all of the limes into quarters. Squeeze all of the juice on top of the avocado halves in the mixing bowl.
- Chop the red onion into small pieces. Place the chopped onion in the mixing bowl.
- Chop the cilantro into fine pieces. Place the chopped cilantro in the mixing bowl.
- Using a fork, mash the avocado and stir in all of the ingredients in the mixing bowl.
- Add the salt and pepper to taste. Give a final stir to the ingredients in the mixing bowl.
- Transfer guacamole to a serving dish with fresh tortilla chips and enjoy!
